or so it seems. The last time that I posted we had just found out that we were expecting again. I was so excited and hoping for that sweet little girl that I could dress in all my sweet attire. God obviously had other plans. Not only did not have a girl but we had two boys instead!!! My boys are awesome and I could not ask for anything better. I am hoping to get back in the swing of things. A friend of mine and I have been talking about partnering together. That way we could efficienlty get things accomplished with the 5 kids that we have between us. We will see where that goes I guess. Anyway, I am glad to be back. Oh and here are pics of my two sweet new baby boys that are now almost 6 mos. old.

Welll seems we are having an addition to the CuppyCake family. I am preggers!!!! Yay. We are so excited. Hudson is going to be a big brother, which kind of freaks me out a bit. I know that I want this baby but I hope that I am not taking much needed time away from Hudson. I know every mom having their second child must feel that way at some point. I can't wait for us to all proceed on this journey together. It is going to be fun I am sure. I only hope this pregnancy doesn't suck as much as my first.

Tutorial and Giveaway!!!

This is the tutorial that I shared over at Fun to Craft on Saturday. Wanted to post it here as well. And I am doing a giveaway for it over on my facebook page. Whoever refers the most people by Thursday at 9 p.m. will win it. Let’s get started shall we!!!
Today I would like to show you how to make a crayon apron.
Materials needed:
-3 pieces of fabric of your choice. I made one that will fit approx. 2-4 years old.
One piece for the apron ties (6in x 69in)
One piece for apron (10in x 16 in)
One piece for crayon holder (4 in x 11in)
-matching thread
-scissors
-iron

Now that we have our supplies gathered we can start on the fun stuff.

Take your long piece that you have for your apron ties and fold in half with right sides facing.
Find the middle of your apron ties and mark with a pin or marker. Now mark 5 ½ inches on each side of the middle mark. This space will be where you will fit the apron later. Sorry I don't have a pic of this.
Now sew the apron ties shut leaving an opening where you have marked with your pins or marker.

Take your apron ties and turn it right side out.

Press with an iron being sure that the middle folds in as you iron. Place the apron ties aside for later.

Now take your apron and fold the two shorts sides and one of the long sides and fold about ¼ in. and press. Fold once more and press again.

Sew all three sides leaving one side untouched.

This part is magic to me. I don’t see many people do this so I don’t know if it is an unknown in the sewing world but check this out. Set your machine tension as high as it will go and your stitch length as well.

Take your apron and sew straight down the raw edge. This should gather your apron. If it does not then you will need to set tension to about 1-2 and sew the raw edge without backstitching. Now tug on your thread to make the apron about 11inches in length.

Take you apron and insert it into the apron ties (remember the middle that we left untouched earlier).

Be sure to pin, pin, pin!

Once you have your apron pinned well into your apron ties, topstitch the apron into the apron ties.

And look you have a super cute apron as it is. But who wants to stop there. Now we add the crayon holder.

Take your crayon holder and turn the 2 shorts sides under about ¼ in and press. Turn once more and press again. Do the same with one of the long sides.

Sew the 3 sides hems leaving one raw edge.

Now take your crayon holder and place it on top of the apron with the right sides facing and the raw edge about 3 inches from the bottom. Sew a straight stitch across the top.

Now fold the croyon holder up so that the wrong side of the crayon holder is facing the right side of the apron. Top stitch the 2 short sides.

LAST STEP!!!
I used the large crayons for this apron so my crayon compartments are sewn every one inch. Use a pin to measure every one inch and sew from the top to bottom making sure to keep your line straight.

DONE!!!!!

There are obviously more compartments than six but I only had six crayons.

Look What I Made and Tutorial to Share!!!

So I have been thinking about making something for ME. Dare I think much less say that I will make something for me (gasp). Anyway I have been wanting a new school bag so here I am with only a few weeks left before I graduate and now I decide to make a bag for myself. Well there is actually a good reason. Angela Deville, the wonderful talent behind all my model pics, is going to be doing Baby Grand tomorrow here in Baton Rouge and she needed a diaper bag to use for a sample of a diaper bag tag that she has (make sense). Anyway...I have been eyeing this diaper bag pattern and decided that I would just go for it and have so that Angela could use it and I would have a new bag for myself when she was done.

I followed the pattern for the most part but I did forgoe the bottom part and just sewed the front and back pieces together. I also did not include the zipper pocket inside of mind and I wish I would have now. I will make more of this pattern because it was super easy and not very time consuming. And since we are now officially trying to get pregnant again I have more reason than ever to make cute diaper bags.

So here is my end product. What do you think?

Embellished Tee-My first tutorial!!!

Okay...so I have been thinking about doing a tutorial for a while now and I am just now getting to it. First of all I do not claim to know everything about sewing so if someone knows a better way to do this please let me know. I am going to try to be as clear as possible but if for some reason you don't understand something than please let me know. My email is courtney at cuppycakeboutique dot com. Okay...here goes nothing.
Supplies needed:
1. coordinating fabrics ( I used two different pieces but use as many (or as little) as you like)
the sizes of the fabric will be determined as you go along
2.pinking shears (not a must but I just like to use the)
3. crocheting needle and thread
4. typicall sewing notions. (a sewing machine is not essential)

Now we get down to business.

Gather you supplies

Measure the width of your tee or onesie

Mine was 7 inches across (remember to add 1/2 seam allowance)

Then you want to decide how wide you would like your band to be and cut that on the fold

I wanted a 2 inch band so I cut 2 inches on the fold or 4 inches total

So my band ended up being 7 1/2 by 2 inches after it is folded.

Now put right sides together and pin. You will sew 3 raw edges leaving an opening on one side for turning.

Once you have turned the band right side out press nicely so that it lays flat. Noticed the raw edge at the end.

I then overcasted the raw edge with a tight zig zag stitch

Then pin the band to the tee. I folded the raw edge under.

Topstitch around the entire band

Now on to cutting your flower. There is no science to this. I just used my pinking shears to cut about 4 different size circles with 2 differnt fabrics. If you don't have pinking shears you may want to overcast the edges with a zig zag stitich. Either way the edges will have a messy (which is good) edge to it.

Take your crochet needle and thread and make a knot in the center. You can make this by pulling your thread through the flower several times. A cutesy button could be used instead for older girls.

Final step...top stitch you fabric to your onesie. Voila...easy peasy!!!

How to add a blog button

So...I have scoured the internet looking for tutorials on adding a blog button to a blog so that others can grab it and place on their blogs or websites. I found a few helpful tutorials but all were a bit confusing. I finally figured it out. So I am posting clear and concise (or so I hope) steps here for others to follow. Here we go:
1. if you need directions on how to make a blog button please see this great tute here. The is a pretty easy tutorial to follow on making a button. There are others so if this does not help just google how to make a blog button. You can make on by using free photo editing software like piknik.
2. You will then want to use photobucket to download your image and also resize in photobucket to about 125x125....I did 188x125 for my button and you will use the image code underneath the button.
3. You will then go to your layout on your blog and under page elements you want to add a gadget.
This is the code that you will place in the box

This will make your button appear on your blog....YAY!!! but we are not done yet.
4. Now in the same box that you used for the above code you want to put this code:

DONE!!!! Not so hard afterall, eh?
Now go make your button and tell everyone to grab....grab mine while your at.

I know I know.....it has been weeks since I have posted anything. School started back last week so I have been super busy. On top of that Hudson started going to a new sitter last week and let me tell you that has been an adjustment for me. Not that she is not absolutely wonderful but just me having to adjust to him being somewhere new sucks. Although he has yet to cry when his dad drops him off. He loves it.

I am in love with my new creation. I bought this material in the summer and made a pillowcase dress out of thinking it would be perfect for fall. Well I used all of it at that time, but since I think that it is so gorgeous I thought that I could surely find a way to make it more sping like. I feel like I accomplished that with the lime green sleeves, border and bow. You can find this sweet little number at my etsy shop.

Weightloss Challenge Check-in

Whooohooooo!!!!! Two pounds down and 8 more to go to meet my mini goal of 10 lbs. by March 15.
I was not able to stick with the regular walking this week. Okay.....I didn't walk at all. It has been way to cold for this South Louisiana girl to even venture out of the house.

So my goal for this week is to stay steady on my Weight Watcher diet and START WALKING!!!!

Weight Loss Challenge

So it is a new year and I am ready for a new me. Well not new really. I guess I just want the old me back, pre pregnancy. So I have decided to get back on track with a fresh start in the new year. I guess I feel like if I post here about my weight loss and progress that I will be more accountable. That's the idea anyway.

So when I came up with this idea also thought that maybe others would like join in as well.

My thoughts are that I will post here every Monday with an update on how I am doing and anyone who would like to join in could do so in the comment section below all of my post. We could all root each other on, tell our goals for the upcoming week and our accomplishments with our weight loss for the proceeding week.

So what do you think?

I will go first.

I am going to start off by detoxing my body to "jumpstart" my weightloss. I found a great blog post about this here I will get all of the groceries that I need for this tomorrow and start it on Thursday. Once I am done with this I am going to go back to the trusted weight watchers diet. If you need a points calculator you can find one here or here to find out how many points you should have per day.
I am going to also start walking at least 20 minutes per day for at least five days per week.
I am going to set small goals for myself. I want to lose a total of 25lbs., but I am going to start with 10 lbs. by March 15 and go from there.
So let the challenge begin. I will be checking in on Monday to post my accomplishments and goals for the upcoming week. Who's with me!!!!!

Christmas is my favorite time of year and this year is even more special. My son is 1 1/2 and even though he doesn't understand the concept of Santa he does understand the concept of toys and new toys are even better. This year he will walk into the living room to see cool new things to play with and his little eyes will light up and the innocence of this time of year will shine through.
As of now we don't have any Christmas traditions in our new blooming family, but I am sure that we will make some cool new ones this year. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful husband and son.

Another New Sewing Machine

I have had to buy my third sewing machine in the last 6 mos. They were all Brother sewing machines and I guess they just could not handle my workload. I returned two today and went to Sears to buy a forth. I love it so far. We shall see how it acts in the next few weeks.

While I was out of commission without a sewing machine I decided that I would try to find a food purse pattern online. And I found one. I have not tried to make this purse yet, but I wanted to share it because I think that it is so cute. Here is the link: mamaspocketbook.com/freebies.htm .

I have once again been very busy. Not complaining just commenting. I have a show this weekend and have thankfully not waited til the last minute to get finished. All garments are sewn and all that I must do now is add my label to them. Yay!!!!
I have so many fabric scraps that I have finally organized very neatly into a plastic bin. As I sit and look at them I have wondered why I am keeping them around. So I googled some uses for fabric scraps and found some really cute ideas, but one in particular is a diaper case. This will be my next project. Cricut Crazy

I had no idea that this the Cricut could do so many things. Where have I been. I have been spending money on appliques made by other people when I can do it so easily myself.
So I bought the Cricut a couple of weeks ago (actually for my birthday) and I have just now gotten to really start to play with the Sure Cuts Alot program. It is just amazing to me how easy it is to make cute appliques. I love it.

Phew!!!! What a crazy few weeks it has been. I have been so busy that I have lacked on my blogging. But nonetheless, never fear, I am back. But not for long, because I have yet to catch up and the holiday season if upon us.
Halloween is around the corner and I....uh, I mean Hudson is so ready for trick or treating. He will be a bat this year. Which reminds me...I will be having a costume. photo contest to win free clothing from my shop. More on that later. Off to catch up on Grey's Anatomy.

Busy Weekend

This weekend was soooo busy, but so much fun at the same time. I had a showcase party on Thursday, a craft fair on Saturday and another showcase party on Saturday night. Sew much sewing going on. Now it is time to gear up for the Holiday season!!! I love the holidays.

Bias Tape Tute

So I have been crazy busy trying to get ready for a local craft fair this weekend on top of two showcase parties, getting ready for a midterm and homework, and trying to spend as much quality time with my son as possible. But this tutorial has been on my mind.
I love bias tape. I think it makes life so much easier. So here are two tutes that I found to help learn how to use it correctly. You should find it helpful too. The firt one will help you with sewing arm and neck holes easily. I always had a problem with this when I first started sewing. Bias tape is the answer.

So here goes nothing. I am starting this whole blogging thing because I hear it is one of the best ways to get my designs and name out there. Although I may plug my shop and items periodically this is defininetly not a blog only about my items.
I want to be able to create tutorials and give idea to other crafters and sewers out there
I am by no means an expert sewer and I am still learning everyday, but I know that when I first started I was always searching for the proper way to create and sew. So I want to be able to help others as well as others helping me. Enjoy and feedback is always welcome.
